Hot Spots > Beekman Street Art District
Just when you thought Saratoga couldn't get more appealing, along comes the next big thing: Beekman Street Art District - a newly revitalized and bustling art district located on the West Side of Saratoga, just a few blocks from Broadway.
The turn-of-the-century homes lining Beekman Street are reminiscent of another time when the local working class made their homes here. Modest buildings hugging the street, they were within walking distance to the city. This tightly knit community of homes, businesses and shops served the people who catered to the Saratoga Springs tourist industry.
Today the arts community is transforming this former residential neighborhood into an eclectic center for the arts, just a short walk or a three minute pedi-cab ride from downtown Saratoga. Not just a summer attraction, the Beekman Street Art District has become a new destination for First Night celebrants. After a festive hay wagon ride from Congress Street, visitors disembark to the warmth of paper luminaries lighting the snowy sidewalks. In April, an Arti Gras parade also takes place here. Cozy shops and galleries beckon along with shop windows filled with unique and one-of-a-kind wares. Restaurants including Beekman Street Bistro, Gotchya's Trattoria, The Local Pub and Teahouse are also popular establishments. On the First Saturday of every month, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, you can enjoy FREE cultural events during See You On Saturday - Exploring Culture in Saratoga Springs. Beekman Street is often at the center of the many exhibit openings and artist receptions that are held each month. Free trolley service is provided, and local businesses often run food and drink specials, adding to the festive atmosphere of this popular monthly event. Continued growth of the Art District will include new specialty retail shops, restaurants and other uniquebusinesses among old and new buildings. Artists of all ages, experience and genres are living, working, and creating memorable works of art here, with an eye toward making Beekman Street an unforgettable Saratoga Springs attraction. |
