LAKE GEORGE, NY: Adirondack Winery, Warren County’s first winery, is proud to announce that its “Autumn Brilliance” series of wine labels recently won an second place (also known as honorable mention in this competition) at the 2009 New York State Wine Labeling & Packaging Competition, which was held at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua.

Adirondack Winery’s “Autumn Brilliance” series includes Sauvignon Blanc, which features a picture of Lake George’s Shepard Park covered with golden Autumn leaves on an October day; Sangiovese, which was taken of a red-leafed tree looking up the hill at Lake George’s Shepard Park; and Zinfandel, which features the ducks at Crandall Park Pond lingering into the gorgeous hues of Autumn in Glens Falls. New York State now offers the NYS APPROVED DEFENSIVE DRIVER COURSE ONLINE! Drivers who take the online course can get 10-15% off their insurance and up to 4 points off their license.

Courses offered by Broadalbin’s WS Construction/I drive Safely include a mature course, teenage driver course, defensive driving and insurance reduction. Also permit practice and company defensive driver course.

Until recently, the online defensive driver course has never been offered before and now is approved by many states including New York.

Saratoga Springs, NY (July 22, 2009) – Saratoga Gaming and Raceway (SGR) is joining forces with the Saratoga Harness Horsepersons Association (SHHA) to host an event to benefit the Franklin Community Center (FCC) Food Pantry program.

On Tuesday, August 4th, the SHHA drivers will donate their entire driving fee to the FCC Food Pantry program. SGR will match the SHHA donation of approximately $3,000, for a total donation of roughly $6,000. The SGR Team Members and patrons will also join the cause by donating canned goods and non-perishable food items on Saturday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 4. Guests that donate a food item will be entered to win dinner for four at Fortunes Restaurant, located at trackside at SGR. One winner will be selected on each of the scheduled food collection nights.

SARATOGA SPRINGS NY — After a couple of false starts, indie-rock buzzmakers Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles will finally make their Capital Region debut on July 26th (Open House Sunday) as part of the ThoroFan Racing Season Kickoff benefit at the popular Horseshoe Inn, trackside in Saratoga.

A December ’07 snowstorm kept the Boston-based Borges from doing an unplugged showcase at Caffe Lena; and a chance to open for her longtime hero John Doe (of X fame) had her asking-out of a recent May gig in The Parting Glass.

Saratoga Springs, New York: In an unstable economy, two local families joined forces to reintroduce an 1853 Saratoga Springs original that gave birth to the “Snack Food Industry” as we know it today.

The idea came to them back in January while they were researching the history of Saratoga Springs. They discovered the fact that the potato chip was invented at Moon’s Lake House in Saratoga Springs back in 1853. It baffled them why The Original Saratoga Chips were invented here but no longer sold. Moon Brand Original Saratoga Chips were sold commercially all throughout New England from 1853 to the mid 1920’s when Herman Lay and others simplified the name to ”Potato Chips”, and mass marketed them to the nation. Sadly, Moon Brand Original Saratoga Chips fell into obscurity and have largely been forgotten along with the historic story and the potato chips undisputed [...]
