Bennington, Vermont artist John Crawford shows his unique horse sculptures this summer at the Art in the Park exhibit in Congress Park, Saratoga Springs, New York on July 10 and Aug 25, 2010.

For most of us, retirement is a time when you can relax and enjoy life at a more leisurely pace. But for John Crawford who retired as a commercial designer more than two decades ago, everyday is a creative, energetic experience. This Bennington native combines his passion for horses and his artistic skills by bringing to life one of natures most beautiful creatures. Through his wood carving and unique horseshoe sculpture, Crawford depicts thoroughbreds he has known and cared for.

“I try to capture the look of the animal- their grace and strength,” says Crawford who uses actual vintage horseshoes to construct some of his most compelling horse sculptures. The process of creating a [...]

Saratoga Springs, NY (May 6, 2010) – Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival Artistic Director and Co-Producer Danny Melnick loves discovering great new jazz talent. Last spring when he was working backstage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, he heard a young trumpeter named Mario Abney and was “knocked out” by Mario’s playing, music and band.

“They just destroyed the audience! Mario’s band opened the Jazz Tent at 11:00 AM and everyone went nuts for their set,” noted Melnick. “After the show, I went straight to Mario and said, ‘I’m booking you NOW for a festival I produce in New York next year.’” And so, Abney is set to perform on both the Main and Gazebo stages on Saturday, June 26.

Once people hear Abney they try to help him along with his career. Wynton Marsalis donated [...]
