SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York (May 10, 2012) – Saratoga Casino and Raceway is reporting a record-breaking 24 percent increase on wagering for the Kentucky Derby and the Churchill Downs racing program on May 5.
Total handle on Churchill Downs was $683,000, while handle on the Kentucky Derby alone was $453,000. Each of these totals mark individual records for Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
John Matarazzo, Director of Racing Operations, attributed the record numbers to the expansion of their interactive wagering platform, SaratogaBets, as well as the overall appeal of Saratoga Casino and Raceway facility.
“We’re extremely pleased that racing fans in the Capital District are coming out in record numbers to enjoy all the amenities our great facility has to offer” said Matarazzo. “We are also very excited that our interactive internet/telephone wagering platform, SaratogaBets has been so well-received.”
Saratoga Casino and Raceway is also reporting that their Derby Day handle exceeded the $1 million mark for the first time. All-source handle for the day totaled $1.09 million, which surpassed the previous record of $942,000 (set in 2011) by a 15.7 percent margin. All-source totals encompass all wagers placed on any race for any track.
In addition, Saratoga Casino and Raceway overall attendance and gaming revenue both enjoyed Derby Day record highs.
“Our record breaking Derby Day further demonstrates Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s position as a top entertainment destination for the Northeast,” added Matarazzo.
