It's unfortunate to report that the Saratoga regional Y (not ymca), does not recognize single parents as a category. They consider family memberships a "value", but require $2.00 per hour for childcare AND the child have a membership, regardless of their age. It's $77.00 for "family" and $68.00 for "adult and child".

They do not have an "unlimited childcare" option rate, unlike other local gym's (Vent fitness;$15.00 per month, unlimited child care). If they offered this, similar to the YMCA of yorktown va, I would still be a loyal member of the ymca.

As for complaining to corporate; they responded that they forwarded my concerns that they were discriminating against single parents, because to actively use a membership and childcare, the cost was around $150.00 per month. Single parents have twice the bills, half the help, and barely enough to get by anyhow. The director never responded to my email. Now there is a "single special", which is $68.00 and no childcare; that's what it is normally!

Deeply saddened by the discrimination against single parents that the saratoga regional Y has expressed through their silence.

The queensbury ymca does not charge the additional fee, but is too far from where I live to pay for the gas.

During the tour of the facility; the woman gave me a "scholarship" application, because I mentioned single mother. I'm not a charity case, I have a job, I get paid well. I cannot justify a membership fee of $150.00 per month to go to the gym. It's unreasonable, and I hope more people express this sadness.
