This afternoon at the Book Bag at the library I found
Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential. A classic insiders
guide to the restaurant industry.

I read it years ago when it first came out, now i own it!
Bought it for $2, its worth a hell of a lot more.

Life is good.

Moving On

Thinking about moving. I have lived in the same house
near the racetrack for the past 8 years.

Now that my kid is in college and its just me now, I want a new place.

An artists space if you will.

If anyone in Saratoga Springs/Ballston Spa area has a 1 Bedroon apartment
or carriage house for rent, please let this girl know. I need a quiet space to write
since I write for a living. I come from a long line of Irish domestics so I am fanatically clean, bordering on OCD so you wont have to worry about me leaving the place a mess.

Irish Writers

It is rather difficult to write with your hands behind your back.
Some people forgot why they were attracted to my writing in the first place.

In spite of this I will continue to write and write well; as there are at least
a thousand examples of writers of Irish lineage who continually and consistently
proved that they mastered the language of the conquerers.

If you don't believe me, then its time to go to the library and go through the stacks.

 I will prevail.

Perspective

Compared to whats going on in Haiti and other parts of the world
my problems pale in comparison.

It's all about perspective and awareness.
to be lies
and all the joy within in you dies
don't you want somebody to love
                              Jefferson Airplane/Grace Slick

This is the background music to the new Coen Brothers
film, 'The Serious Man' which I saw this afternoon at the film
forum at my daughters suggestion. It is a good film, a rather dark
comedy like most of their films.

I've been so busy these past few months that I have neglected one of my best friends; the Public library. Yesterday afternoon I spent a better part of the day there. I borrowed Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny and Eduardo Galeano's Mirrors at a friends suggestion.

I then wandered into the Book Bag (the used book store in the library) and scored Ruth Reichl's 1998 memoir, Tender at the Bone-Growing up at the Table. It was only $2!!  Ruth Reichl is probably one of the best food writers of our time. Everyone thinks that they can write intelligently about food and make it interesting but very few people actually know what they are talking about. Not everyone can be M.F.K. Fisher, Ruth Reichl or Anthony Bourdain.
Back in the summer, if you recall I wrote about the Batchellor Mansion being
the best Bed and Breakfast in town, it was then that I was invited to Dan's (the innkeeper's) famous stuffed french toast. He told me I could stop by anytime to savor this most delicious breakfast.

I just didn't have time until now, so this next week I will get extra early and head over to the Batchellor Mansion  and treat myself to this most generous invitation of breakfast at the Batchellor Mansion. I will be giving my review of the breakfast sometime next week and any new added attractions at The Batchellor Mansion.

Stay tuned.

Going Rogue

No, not her, me! I don't know where Sarah Palin is going but I know its not rogue.

A more fitting title for her book would be The Bridge To Nowhere.   That title would also sum up her future and political career. But she neglected to consult me first and stole my Going Rogue title.

God Damn that woman.

Happy New Year!!

Thank you to all my loyal fans who have continually asked me about my blog. I know I have been neglecting this baby for awhile. My job as Managing Editor of the Ballston Journal keeps this girl rather busy.

Anyway........Happy New Year to all.

My new year is getting off to a rather good start. Last night, I once again participated in the First Night 5K run up at Skidmore. Weather and conditions were excellent this year. In spite of being pitifully out of shape compared to last year and 20 lbs heavier this year (my new job is making me fat) I finished in 43 minutes and 16 seconds. Yes, I know I am out of practice. I am trying to get back in the habit of running every day like I used to.

Today I went to the City Center here in Saratoga for the swearing in ceremony of our elected officials. I was personally invited by Ken Ivins and Joanne Yepsen. I am glad I went as I saw a lot of people I haven't seen in awhile.

It was good to see Michelle Boxley, John Franck's deputy, and also Catholic Priest Neil Draves Arpeia who has known me all my life.

I am happy for the new Public Safety Commissioner Richard Wirth and I am interested in seeing how he will do and what he will bring the city of Saratoga.

The next town meeting will be Tuesday night. If I am able to go, I know I will see the usual suspects.

Nancy Muldoon would like to believe that she comes from a long line of Irish rebels but in reality she comes from a long line of Irish Domestics.

Ms. Muldoon is the most opinionated woman you will ever encounter. Some people say that Nancy is a liberal; others accuse her of being a closeted Republican. Nancy believes these accusations are part of her appeal. Nancy can be reached at
