Saratoga Springs Public Library is excited to announce that best-selling author Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge also known as The Fabulous Beekman Boys (Planet Green TV), will be at the library at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4. Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge will discuss their fabulous farm-life at Beekman 1802, in Sharon Springs, NY, and what inspired them to develop their recently published book "The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook," which showcases heirloom fruits and vegetables and recipes from their farm, family, and friends. Copies of The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook will be available for purchase, provided by Barnes & Noble of Wilton. Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge will be conducting a book signing at the conclusion of their program.
Their decision to leave city life behind has been chronicled in Kilmer-Purcell's national best-seller, The Bucolic Plague, and on the hit Planet Green TV show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys. Ridge is a physician and formerly a vice president at Martha Steward Living Omnimedia. Kilmer-Purcell is an advertising executive and the New York Times best-selling author of "I Am Not Myself These Days."
Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge are the founders of Beekman 1802, one of the fastest-growing lifestyle brands in the United States. Their company, based out of their 60-acre goat farm in Sharon Springs, NY, designs hand-crafted, natural quality goods that are sold on their website and in major retail stores as well as smaller shops and boutiques throughout the country. Their website, is a pleasant read full of information on food, wine, gardening, decor, and farm-life-truly an inspirational website to visit. It has previously been nominated for a James Beard Award and Epicurious hailed them as "the next Martha Stewart."
The duo are masters at social media and building online communities, having built the World's Largest "Community" Garden with Williams-Sonoma earlier this year---10,000 gardeners all growing 10 of the same heirloom vegetables that they grow on their own farm in upstate NY and sharing the experience with each other in online forums. The idea of sharing and story-telling permeates almost everything that their farm-based company, Beekman 1802, designs.
The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook contains simple and delicious recipes, arranged by season, and intended for both every day and special occasions. From springtime pea pod risotto and summery strawberry shortcake to quick braised collards in autumn and yummy chicken 'n' dumplings for a snowy winter's day, this is simple yet luscious farm-fresh fare that everyone will love.
This program will be held at Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 in the H. Dutcher Community Room. There will be no charge for this program, which is open to the public. Space will be limited, and we encourage people to arrive early to secure parking and seating.
