The Hyde Collection presents The Hyde Celebrates!  Private Collecting, Public Gift, a lecture and book signing by Anne Higonnet, professor of art history at Barnard and author of A Museum of One's Own; Private Collecting, Public Gift, Periscope Publishing, 2009.

The Hyde Celebrates series honors the centennial of the building of Hyde House. Beautifully illustrated with images of famous collectors and collections, A Museum of One’s Own tells the story of how the private homes and the collections amassed by cultural and industrial icons such as Isabella Stuart Gardner, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Clay Frick became public museums.

Ms. Higonnet holds a doctorate from Yale University, taught at Wellesley prior to her current position as professor of art history at Barnard, and is the author of books and articles covering a range of art historical topics from Impressionism to contemporary photography.  Copies of a Museum of One’s Own are available for purchase in the museum shop.   The lecture and book signing are free with museum admission.  Book is for sale in the Museum Store.  For more information, contact curator of education June Leary at 518-792-1761, ext. 27.
