Maine-born, Austin-based singer-songwriter Slaid Cleaves spins stories with a novelist's eye and a poet's heart. Twenty years into his career, the celebrated songwriter's newest album, Still Fighting the War, delivers vivid snapshots as wildly cinematic as they are carefully chiseled with themes ranging from gospel, to Texas pride, to tongue in cheek numbers. His bittersweet melodies deliver equal measures of hope and resignation, effortlessly shading dark with light and wringing the most out of a melody

The Hubbard Hall Opera Theater presents highlights from Mozart's hilarious Marriage of Figaro sung by our main stage and conservatory cover artists and accompanied by piano. In Barber of Seville, Count Almaviva, with help from Figaro, wooed and won the lovely Rosina away from her crusty old ward and would-be husband, Dr. Bartolo. In The Marriage of Figaro, Beaumarchais continues their story. The Count has married Rosina but their marriage has gone sour because of his philandering. Figaro has quit barbering and is now the Count's major-domo. He is engaged to Susanna, who is Countess Rosina's maid - and the Count's intended conquest. Old Bartolo is back to seek revenge on Figaro for taking Rosina away from him, with the help of the slimy music-master, Don Basilo. Adding to the fun are an amorous teenager, a scheming old maid, a drunken gardener, and a silly young girl. Much happens on a single "folle journée" - a crazy day. Light refreshments will be served.

This free concert series is a signature event in Ballston Spa and draws hundreds of visitors, as well as residents of the greater Ballston Spa community, to the village's historic downtown. The concerts are held amid our lovely Wiswall Park gardens on Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm directly following the Thursday afternoon Farmers' Market. This year's concert season runs from June 26th through August 28th, once again offering a diverse line-up of talent. Upstate New York's own Hard Soul made their debut in late 2011, showcasing their take of what songwriter-driven rock n' roll music should be all about. Channeling the guitar & lyrical stylings of Thin Lizzy, the hooks of The Beatles, and the emotion of Oasis, the band is bringing back vintage rock with a modern-flare. The mighty Hard Soul delivered their debut LP 'Heart of Plaster', featuring 10 brand-new guitar-driven tracks inspired by life on the road, heartbreak and sacrifice, and the search for a place to call home, all set to a mighty back-beat with heartfelt lyrics soaring over a classic-rock inspired soundscape.
