Checked out the arrivals early this morning at the Oklahoma Training track and yes, as I told you, such a heavenly sight to see, these elegant thoroughbreds gracing our region, Saratoga!
It opened at 6 am with the horses and exercise riders making their way around the track.
Trainers appeared content with the early opening this year while drinking their morning coffees, the not-so-cold weather and the brisk pace of the two year olds. And, isn't Oklahoma the absolute perfect track for a two year old to learn? I say a resounding YES!
Those young thoroughbreds train here before they get their big chance to race elsewhere. So much fun to watch these youngsters as they learn how to enter the gates, race and win.
Reminds me of my nephew playing hockey as a teen and fans would come up to him asking for autographs hoping one day he would play in the major leagues. Exhilarating to witness.
It's key these horses establish stalls now because there's simply no room at the inns downstate. Those higher stakes raking in monies sparked from Aqueduct's new casino mean more horses racing downstate. That causes a bigger demand for space. Saratoga has the room and we're glad to accomodate.
The horses are here, now, early, and every spectator along East enjoys the view. I loved it as I watched Thursday morning before heading to New York City on business. I will be back Friday morning and Saturday morning; as often as possible!
Each day more trainers arrive with more horses. From downstate from Florida and other regions of the country. They are coming not only because of lack of space elsewhere but also because they love Saratoga. From the looks on their faces from trainers to exercise riders to backstretch workers, they're happy to be here. Saratoga is the best training grounds, bar none.
Welcome to all making Saratoga their home for the next couple months. We love the scene.
Go check out the heavenly arrivals, Saratoga!
