Celebrate the magic of an old-fashioned Victorian Streetwalk and Christmas in Saratoga Springs on December 4, 2008! Downtown Saratoga is closed to traffic and all of Broadway is blanketed in Victorian holiday magic. The annual Saratoga Springs Victorian Streetwalk transforms the city into a Victorian winter wonderland each year the Thursday after Thanksgiving. Carolers stroll the sidewalks dressed in elegant period costumes, gaily colored hats and scarves, delighting listeners with music and song. Charles Dickens himself would feel at home amid festive holiday displays and merriment. (No Scrooges allowed!) The Festival of Trees display features dozens of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and swags that are created and donated by local businesses and sold to benefit charity. All types of entertainers work the crowds at the Victorian Streetwalk in downtown Saratoga Springs, and there is merriment everywhere, with musicians, magicians, children's comedy and other performances. Santa welcomes visits from children at his very special cottage, where kids can get up close and personal with his real-life team of reindeer! Shuttles transport revelers from Railroad Station and the Weible Avenue Skating Rink right into downtown. Families can mingle in the street, enjoying holiday food, festivities and decorations uninterrupted by concerns for modern-day traffic! Shops and businesses hold open house with free refreshments, and remain open for merry holiday shoppers until 10:00 p.m. Bonus: Bring your Christmas cards to the Saratoga Springs Post Office at 475 Broadway between 5:00 and 9:00 pm and have them stamped with a special Saratoga Victorian Streetwalk postal cancellation! |
