My husband and I are getting ready to hit the road on Thursday for a long weekend getaway. We are headed to Chatham, Mass. for a wedding and decided to make it a long weekend. It has made me rethink my workouts for the week and reorganize my daily routine a bit. I won’t be in my Spinning studio this weekend, so I am just going to pack my sneakers and take some long walks on the beach.
Since I commit about 10-12 hours of activity (workouts) into my usual weekly schedule, if we take a week – long vacation, I usually do not hit the gym. I do, however, do lots of things that burn calories without being stuck indoors. We walk, swim, laugh, and generally eat healthfully for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is another story!!! Your body needs recovery and rest, just as much as it needs a good workout.
If we are away for more than 7 days, I will hit the gym a few times just to make sure that I stay on track and that I feel good. If we take a cruise or go to an all-inclusive resort, my body seems to take a few days to “adjust” to the food that is served. Things like taking a couple of bites of my husband’s dessert on a Tuesday night, or a few extra glasses of wine on Friday night can add up to lots of extra calories consumed. No one likes to return from a fabulous vacation with an extra 6 pounds, right? Personally, I would rather hit the gym for a couple hours than come back not feeling like myself.
That being said, vacations are for enjoying yourself and having a good time. Your mental health and stress – level do affect your physical well-being. So, have fun, but remember, you have to come back to reality (and your jeans) in a few days!
Do you like to workout while you are away?
Workout is amazing thing as it make perfect body with solving all cardiovascular problems.
