How to Stay Active on a Rainy Day

It looks like Saratoga Springs is going to be wet this summer! If you don't like the feeling of wet socks, shoes, and hair, come on inside! There are so many great options in our city to stay active.

Most gyms or fitness studios are really busy when the weather is less than perfect this time of year. Try making a reservation at a place that lets you book in advance. My Spinning studio allows you to book up to a month in advance. There are also personal trainers (the Fitness Artist is great - look for my review next week), yoga studios and pilates studios that also take advanced reservations.

If you don't want to spend any cash, or if you don't want to leave home, try grabbing a jump rope to raise your heart rate. Do you have some stairs you could climb? If you aren't a complete spaz like me, you could try going up the stairs, going up and down backwards, sideways - whatever gets it done!

You could even go into your pantry, grab a few cans and work your upper body! If you have any questions or need further suggestions, feel free to leave me a comment below.

Lose 20 pounds in a week by eating ice cream every day and without exercising! Does this sound too good to be true? Well, - it is! Just like millions of Americans who are struggling with being overweight or obese, about 10 years, ago I found myself overweight and unhappy. By taking baby steps, I was able to tweak my diet, add in exercise, and lose over 30 pounds! It wasn't easy and there was no "magic pill," but I have found fun ways of keeping the weight off over the years. I hope to share my experiences with you: the good, the bad, and the sometimes hilarious!

I have been a certified, Star II Spinning® instructor through Mad Dogg Athletics for almost 10 years and have taught thousands of classes all over the Capital Region. I am also certified in Les Mills Bodypump, Fittour Indoor Cycling, Group Fitness, CPR, and AED. I hold a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Hospitality and Food Service Management, as well as a minor in Nutrition. I am also the owner of the Saratoga Cycling Studio, LLC, and am the office manager at the Law Offices of Gerard Amedio, P.C. Needless to say, I am a busy girl, but together we can find ways to maximize our workouts with the little bit of time we can spare in our days.

I consider myself to be a very "real" fitness professional, meaning that, just like many of you, I have to work every day to stay fit. My intentions for each post will be to maybe encourage you to try something new, feel and look healthier, or to simply push your fitness to the next level.
