Saratoga Springs – Rev. Martin Timothy Crowe, C.Ss.R., of Lake Avenue, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at the St. John Neumann Residence. He was 92.
Born on Sept. 23, 1914, in Johnsonburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Richard G. and Lucrece (Garrity) Crowe. A member of Holy Rosary parish, he attended the Novitiate at St. Mary’s Seminary in Ilcehster, Md., professed his vows as a Redemptorist on Aug. 2, 1935, and was ordained into the priesthood on June 23, 1940, at Mt. St. Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, N.Y. He studied at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and received a Doctorate degree in Theology in 1944.
Father served as a Catholic Chaplain in the U.S. Army infantry during and after WWII and had served at St. Philomena’s in Philadelphia, Pa. For 18 years, he served in Manhattan promoting the St. Gerard Majella Guild, the patron of expectant mothers ministry. Since 1970, he served in parish work in Brooklyn at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Gerry (William) Crowe and two sisters, Eleanore Tiffany and Kathryn Fuhrman.
Survivors include one sister, Charlotte Fuhrman of Erie, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373).
