Sports - Golf tourneys raise money

Vote 0 Votes Saratoga News & Events
Two of the area’s longest running fund-raising golf tournaments were in action last week. At the Albany Country Club, the Time Warner Cable Company hosted its annual fundraiser to help fray the expenses of our area Special Olympians in a variety of winter and summer sports. It is Time Warner’s largest community event.

Saratogian Mark Loreno is chairman of the tourney and announced that this year’s golf event raised $25,000, bringing the collective total to $500,000 over 14 years.

At Brookhaven, the Pop Warner football booster club held their annual event to help defray expenses incurred in running a successful program.

Over 100 golfers teed it up on a beautiful Saturday morning on a golf course that has made some dramatic changes over the last few years.

The course was in wonderful shape. Run at a smaller scale than its counterpart in Albany, the Brookhaven event, with help from many area businesses, reached its goal of $2,500.

While every tourney has its winners, the true winners are the young athletes who will benefit from the proceeds raised by these events.
