Who’s who:
Bobby Stillwell – piano, saxophone, guitar and lead vocals
Steve Atwood – guitar and backing vocals
About the band:
The Capital District duo has spent the past five years making a name for themselves from Saratoga Springs to Kingston, as well as across the country and internationally. Stillwell and Atwood, who’ve known one another for almost a decade, perform their party rock live over tracks they’ve built in the studio for a fuller sound.
Prior to teaming up with Atwood, Stillwell performed solo under his own name. An entertainer for more than 20 years, he started playing in his first band at age 11. Completely self taught, Stillwell plays a total of 14 different instruments.
Stillwell has played with well known artists such as Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban. In June, he signed with DreamSpun Recording Group, an independent record label located in Schenectady.
The band has put out a Christmas CD and an instrumental album, and is currently working on a new release.
Covering hit songs from the 1950s to today, the group plays material by acts including Bill Haley & The Comets, Alabama, Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Will Smith, John Cougar, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton and Dire Straits. Stillwell said their repertoire contains approximately 700 different tunes, and the band can play for up to 10 hours if necessary.
The Stillwell Project is playing a 21 and over show at 8 p.m. Friday Aug. 10 at The Saratoga City Tavern in Saratoga Springs. There’s no cover, and folks can check them out at this venue every Friday during track season.
