Roger Goldsmith owner of Crafters Gallery wrote and colored his first children’s book, which will be released Saturday, Dec. 1.
Goldsmith said ‘Paint the Town’ tells the story of a young jester and how he turned a sad gloomy town into a much brighter place.
Goldsmith said the idea of writing a children’s story came about from a series of conversations.
The theme for the YMCA of Saratoga’s First Night celebrations is paint the town and incorporates a jester in each year’s poster.
He said he had the book self-published so he could have it in for the holiday season. Mary Thompson did the drawings for the book and Goldsmith said she will be able to a character drawing of your child in the book, for an extra charge.
Goldsmith said the book will be on sale at the YMCA of Saratoga on West Avenue and the proceeds go to the YMCA.

Artist Karin Volkommer will also be present signing her newest Santa illustration for 2007 called
“Jockeying for a Merry Christmas.” A representative from Digital Page, the publisher of the book, will be at Crafters Gallery discussing what it takes to get a book printed.
Goldsmith plans to do another children’s book in the future.
“It was time consuming but fun,” he said of writing the book.
