Luckily, creativity, hard work and a supportive community can make a lot of things happen.
In April, approximately 50 students from Schuylerville High School’s Class of 2008 will be traveling down to Florida to experience Universal's Grad Bash. The trip will cost each senior about $850.
This will be Senior Class Advisor Mary Lou Liptak-Masten’s eighteenth trip with students to the “Sunshine State.” She said it gets more expensive every year.
“It's an awful lot of money,” Liptak-Masten said. “We’re always looking for ways to raise money, so it's less of a cost for the kids.”
To make the getaway more affordable, Liptak-Masten said they hold fundraisers throughout the year to benefit the senior's class trip fund. There are three of these being done before Christmas.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, folks looking to do all their holiday shopping at one location on just one day should stop by Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. local crafters and vendors including Avon, Discovery Toys, Tastefully Simple, Silpada Jewelry, Taste of Home, Jones’ All Natural Formula, Quilts by Jill White, Hand Painted Glassware by Laura, and LaFayette Jewelry will be selling their wares at the Third Annual Ultimate Home Party, a shopping experience not to be missed.
In addition to that popular event, people can look forward to a Dutch Treat, a holiday discount shopping card good at a number of stores in the community. There’s also EcoPhone. People can also help out with this fundraiser by recycling old cell phones, print cartridges, DVDs, videogames, laptops and more.
“We work hard to raise as much money as we can. That way, anyone who wants to go can go,” Liptak-Masten said.
