I must admit that I’m not your normal observer and it’s not just because of this job where I need to be on top of all things political.
As far back as I can remember, U.S. Presidents have fascinated me. In Mrs. Morrissey’s kindergarten class at Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs, we voted for president in the 1980 race between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. My grandmother DeGrechie gave me a set of presidential coins when I was very young. I used to spend hours reading about each president in our home encyclopedia collection. I even ran for vice president of the student council in fifth grade and the loss to a sixth-grader still stings me to this day.
For the last eight weeks in the pages of Saratoga TODAY, you’ve read detailed analysis and reporting by Adam T. Rossi and Melissa Downer about presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain. Each week we focused on a specific topic and showed the differences, and even some similarities, between the two. The entire series is available online at www.saratogatodayonline.com and it will help you in your decision.
We’ve also delved into the various local races as they have the most direct impact on us here in Saratoga County.
Now it’s up to you the voter to make sure you get to the polls on Tuesday. This is your chance to be part of history no matter what way or ways things go. Make an informed decision and one you can be proud of when you walk out of that booth. Remember, our children will be reading and learning about your decisions for years to come.
We always appreciate your feedback. Please send all comments or letters to the editor to Executive Editor Eric DeGrechie at edegrechie@saratogapublishing.com.
