The Saratoga Home Design Center is not only a forum for finding a diverse array of skilled companies; it is a referral and service. The companies involved with the Design Center vouch for each other, as most have done work and have been doing work in conjunction for many projects.
In other words, this means that anyone visiting the Design Center showroom with the intention of inquiring about wood floor installation or refinishing, for example, would not only find contact information and time and materials information, but the curious home owner would discover that the Design Center features much more than the work of the wood flooring installer. The wood flooring installer is just one component of the home improvement genre featured at the Design Center.
The unique quality of the Saratoga Home Design Center is the diversity among services provided. The Design Center features companies and contractors who perform home improvements such as kitchen installations, wood floor installations, property management, custom painting, interior design consulting, fireplace installation and maintenance, home theater and technology installation, paving and masonry and electrical, to name a few.
One attribute of the Design Center is that there is only one company per type of work, meaning that the Design Center features skilled businesses that have excellent reputations among companies. And as we all know, a business's reputation is built more on how satisfied the customers are than on how well businesses work together. The Saratoga Home Design Center eliminates the search for a reputable company by offering such companies.
The Design Center is as much a resource for interested home owners as it is a supplier of home improvement contractors and companies. The Design Center is urging people to come in and share their thoughts, visions, and questions with staff. The Design Center features many of the products and services provided by the various companies involved so interested parties can experience services first-hand, discuss recent updates in technologies and products, and talk about changes in home design trends.
It is a concept where the meeting of ideas and inspiration coincide with a collection of knowledgeable and highly skilled home improvement companies fixed on providing top quality solutions for your domestic projects. The Saratoga Home Design Center was created in January of this year, but the actual Design Center showroom and offices have only just opened this August.
The Saratoga Home Design Center will provide anything you need for your home. The Design Center is composed of over twenty local businesses that are spread out over an area ranging from Gloversville to Warrensburg. These boundaries are not the working limits of where these companies will go, and these businesses will travel to the home owner's location to provide estimates and consultations.
Lynn Ricci, vice president and owner of Classic Interiors, was kind enough to talk with us regarding her business. "We have everything for the well-dressed home," said Lynn. Classic Interiors has been servicing the Capital District area for about 22 years. Classic Interiors provides reupholstery services, custom furniture, home design consulting, window treatments and fine furniture accessories. Most of the work done by Classic Interiors involves manufacturing custom furniture or reupholstering furniture. All their work is done at their four-thousand square foot showroom/shop located in the Watkins Plaza at 1675 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Lynn commented that more people are requesting custom-made furniture, which Classic Interiors offers customers the option of designing every aspect of the furniture to their needs, wants, or dreams. Lynn also stated that she has noticed her customers have become more environmentally considerate when commissioning her services. Many of her clients are having furniture reupholstered rather than buying all new units. Lynn is impressed by how people are choosing to replace the material on the furniture which fits all within a garbage can instead of throwing the entire hulking piece away. It is more cost-efficient. It reduces the amount of waste generated.
And it shows that home owners are not buying throw-away furniture anymore. They are buying furniture pieces that they truly enjoy. The market is beginning to understand that purchasing something that will last a long time will save consumers big bucks in the long run.

Peter Rosecrans, president and owner of Upstate Property Management, also spoke on behalf of his company and the Saratoga Home Design Center. Peter has been in the property management business for more than 13 years. He worked for a property management firm in Lake George for 10 years, and has owned and operated his own company for three years. He described the goals of Upstate Property Management as a full service real estate advisor and manager. "Upstate Property represents the people as agents," said Peter. It is their goal to maximize the value of a customer's property and provide the right financial advisement so that Upstate Property can make money for the customer.
Upstate Property provides services for both residential and commercial properties. If a client rents a home or apartment, Upstate Property will manage that property by collecting rent, acting as the point contact between the renter and the owner and will take on the task of maintaining the property. If the property is commercial, Upstate Properties will manage renters, organize maintenance of the grounds, and supply construction to improve the property.
"Predominantly, our success has come from traditional means, words of mouth recommendations," says Peter. He attributes the company's success to the active role they take with each property and client, something that is not readily available.
Peter joined the Saratoga Home Design Center for many reasons. He thought it a very good opportunity to get in on the ground floor within an organization of very skilled companies, businesses he already had relationships with. Already aware of the quality workmanship represented by the Saratoga Home Design Center, Peter is excited for the opportunity to bring clients to the Design Center to manage and develop projects. "The Design Center is beautiful, and it will inspire clients. It's a good resource, and we'll be able to provide for the customers - soup to nuts, big projects or small."
If you would like to contact Peter at Upstate Property Management regarding products, services, or questions, he can be reached at (518) 691-8866. The Upstate Property Management website can be located at www.upstatepropertymgt.com.
Donna Mock, owner and operator of Classic Wall Finishes, shared some information regarding her business and her thoughts on the Saratoga Home Design Center. Donna has operated in the Capital Region area for a year and half but has been specializing in decorative finishes for eight years prior. Classic Wall Finishes provides exquisite decorative paint finishes, custom murals, Venetian plaster, and custom designs. "Any decorative finish is applicable and translates to any type or size of home," confessed Donna.
She has worked in all sorts of houses for a wide range of customers. She has worked in homes worth several million dollars to homes worth two hundred-thousand dollars. Donna has worked with all sorts of different finishes, particularly classic finishes, which is perfect for the Saratoga community.
Classic Wall Finishes maintains their product quality through courses and seminars offered by product manufacturers. Donna says that one of her goals is to keep with current trends so that she can provide clients with styles varying from the popular to the unique.
Donna also remarked that she was excited to join the Saratoga Home Design Center because it afforded an opportunity to explore the community. She has done more work with some of the companies involved, such as Classic Interiors, and she has acquired her own floor space at the Design Center. Traditionally, her estimates were performed by visiting with a client at their home.
But since joining the Design Center, Donna can now utilize the floor space to meet with the customer and showcase her work. Classic Wall Finishes offers free estimates as well as a very extensive portfolio.
If you would like to contact Donna at Classic Wall Finishes regarding products, services, or questions, she can be reached at (518) 944-0331 or at dlmock13@aol.com. The Classic Wall Finishes website can be located at www.classicwallfinishes.net.
Eric Hedin, vice president of sales of Core Control Systems, has worked in the Capital Region for some time now but has recently merged with his partners to form Core Control in February of this year. Core Control Systems provides automated controls for the home, design of home technology systems, installation and maintenance. "We make the home easier to run," said Eric.
Core Control designs and installs all types of electronic interfaces varying from security systems to home theaters to integrated personal technology networks. "We bring all the technology in the home to one platform."
Technology systems for the home vary depending on the type of control or the preferences requested by the home owner. Touch screens or remote controls can be installed anywhere in the home. A single control or several panels can be installed throughout the house depending on what you want. Electronics can be streamlined in a system dispersed around the home, so that you can walk into any room and watch your recorded television programs or play your gaming platform.
Electronic home systems can be outfitted with remote access. You can access the electronic components of your house through your cell phone or the internet. Ideally, you can turn on the jacuzzi from your cell phone before you return home from work or a party so it is hot and bubbling when you get back. It you own a vacation home, you can monitor the ambient temperature inside, access installed cameras and review who has been in your home and what is/has been happening in your absence through e-mail.
Eric remarked that the market is small, and there are very few companies providing these services. Also, as the technology advances, technology costs decrease. "This market is changing from the ultra rich to the affordable," said Eric, "And as the market opens up, as the cost of technology drops, and the internet provides a wide range of access, it takes less time to install systems and less time to program them. These systems are becoming more affordable."
Eric feels that the Saratoga Home Design Center is a great opportunity to develop partnerships.
Diversification is always initiated by a larger network of people working together. The more services provided by a diverse working association means more options available for clientele which means more competitive prices, of course.
If you would like to contact Eric at Core Control Systems regarding products, services, or questions, he can be reached at (518) 857-8049 or at:ehedin@corecontrolsystemsllc.com.
