Ballston Spa – Donald W. “Pop” Crawford of Saratoga Road in Ballston Spa passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, at his home. Born in Galway, NY on Dec. 13, 1918, he was the son of the late William and Helen Crawford. He grew up and worked the family farm on Peaceable Street. Don was an electrician and established Crawford Electric Service, Inc. in 1970. His son and grandson joined him in the business. He was a past member of Harmony Corners Fire Department and a retired member of Burnt Hills Fire Dept. with honorary status. Don was the electrician for the Saratoga County Fairgrounds for over 20 years. He enjoyed working and visiting with the people at the fairgrounds. The fair dedicated “Pop’s Corner,” where Don visited with everyone. He enjoyed camping and working in his yard. He loved woodworking and spent many hours in his wood shop.
He was predeceased by his brother Gordon Crawford and sister Marion Garrison. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Pettit Crawford; 2 children, Sharon Bassett and her husband Robert of Valley Falls and William Crawford and his wife Joyce of Ballston Spa; 5 grandchildren, Mark Bassett, Deanna Rohloff and her husband Brian, Tammy Crawford, Scott Crawford and his wife Jennifer, and Dan Palmateer; 3 great-grandchildren, Brianna Rohloff, Niaomi Crawford and Zachary Rohloff; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the Ellis Hospital nursing staff, Community Hospice of Saratoga staff and especially Dr. George Vassolas and his staff for their care and support.
