Saratoga Springs – Elwood “Al” S. Jennings passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Gloversville on Nov. 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Colvin and Florence Jennings. He served in the US Navy. Al worked for Niagara Mohawk for 34 years, retiring as district manager of the Saratoga Springs office in 1987. He was a member of the Niagara Mohawk 25 year Club, American Legion in Broadalbin, Lions Club of Scotia and Saratoga Springs, and the Elks. He was a member and past president of the Greater Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. He was active in his community, belonging to many other local organizations. His greatest joy was sailing and boating at his summer camp on
Sacandaga Lake.
He was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Avery. Al is survived by his wife of 56 years Helen “Honey” O’Leary Jennings; 2 sons, Keith Jennings and his wife Donna of Scotia and Steven Jennings and his wife Michelle of Ballston Spa; 4 grandchildren Brian, Matthew, Daniel and Amanda Jennings; sister Sylvia Zierak of Perth and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial followed in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Relatives and friends gathered on Monday, Nov. 24 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
