Porter Corners – Robert E. Doane passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 in the company of his family. He was 60.
Born on October 27, 1948 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Nancy Smith Doane moving to Salem, NY in 1962. Robert graduated from Salem Washington Academy High School in 1966. After proudly serving his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971, he married Barbara Jackson of Salem on June 22, 1974. During their 34-year marriage, Robert and Barbara shaped numerous loving relationships that have remained strong.
Rob took great enjoyment in listening to music, appreciation of classic cars, and the company of his beloved dog Hallie. Over the years Robert was successfully employed at Decora in Fort Edward, Ball Corp, General Foods Corp and Saratoga Flour/Bakemark.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, one son, Jeffery Doane of Poughkeepsie, NY; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracee and Joseph Canterino of Fogelsville, PA; one grandson, Joseph Xavier Canterino. Robert also has a supportive and loving extended family, Grandma and Francis, Cathi, Kenny, Vicky, Nancy, Eric and Bob.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of Saratoga Springs.
Burial with military honors followed at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road in Stillwater, NY.
Memorials may be made in Robert’s name to the Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center at Saratoga Hospital, 211 Church St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Altho the rest of Rob's family wasn't mentioned, i would like to express my condolences to his marital family. His nephew Michael told me about his passing today, and i received an email from Alan, who blogged a mere shadow of family history.
