Born on Dec. 12, 1915 in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Carmella Calandra Formichelli. Annie owned and operated the Smart Beauty Salon in the Woodlawn area of Schenectady. She married the late D. James Barone on December 29, 1935, celebrating 57 years of marriage. Annie and James loved spending summers in Caroga Lake at their camp "So Cozy" as well as wintering in Florida. She loved bingo and the occasional game of short canasta. Her family was her true joy in life. Affectionately known as "Gammie" to all, she loved to teach anyone who wanted how to cook, knit, crochet or make one of her famous dolls. Annie loved reading romance novels. She was always sharing stories of her childhood, entertaining her family for hours. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church and their rosary society.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Pasquale, Victor and Angelo Formichelli; five sisters, Helen DeNofio, Julia Sabatellli, Phyllis Spany, Mary and Nancy Formichelli.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Cannizzo and her husband Frank of Niskayuna; four grandchildren, Debra S. DeCelle and her husband Danny of Mechanicville, Thomas J. Cannizzo Sr. and his wife Edie of Niskayuna, Kimberley A. DeNovio and her husband Brad of Guilderland, Michael A. Cannizzo and his wife Jill of Mechanicville; nine great-grandchildren, Nicholas D. and Stephanie A. DeCelle, Thomas J. "TJ" Jr. and McCauley M. Cannizzo, Jennifer L., Emily A. and Matthew J. DeNovio; Michael J. and Kyle A. Cannizzo; three sisters, Lucille Doyle, Antoinette Formichelli, Jane Bohunicky and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Relatives and friends gathered on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany Street on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at 9:00 am. Burial was in the family plot at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam.
