"We have a very strong boys and girls team this year," Singers said, who's been promoted to the head coaching position after acting as assistant coach for 6 previous seasons. The boys varsity team took home first place at the invitational, with the girls varsity team coming in a strong third. Both the boys and girls JV teams also managed to snag the top spot, coming in first in their respective competitions.
Brothers Paul and Will Dreyer, both returning players on the varsity team, lead the charge for Saratoga, placing third and fifth overall in the slalom races.
Liz Schwab and Mackenzie Knight helped to ski the girls varsity team into third place, with Schwab coming in third and Knight taking sixteenth.
"The girls squad was accustomed to getting seventh or eighth place last year. Now, we're getting third," Singer said, who is excited by the progress the team has made.
"It's a fun group," Singer said. "Every single practice the older kids make sure they take the time to help out some of the younger skiers. They're great to be around. They make my job very easy."
With their eye towards sectionals beginning on Feb. 10, the team is preparing for their next race (varsity only) at the Queensbury Invitational next Monday.
"I tell all the kids that if they just keep on shooting for the top 10, we can qualify for States," Singer said, who is hopeful that his team will remain competitive for the rest of the season.
