Students and staff at Saratoga Central Catholic now have another reason to be proud to call themselves the Saints.

The varsity bowling team was awarded the Scholar-Athlete Team Award by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), beating out 73 other schools.

"This is an amazing honor. Seven individuals did something extraordinary," Principal Chris Signor said.

The State award honors the varsity athletic team with the highest grade point average. The varsity bowling team had an average GPA of 97.487, the highest GPA in the 18-year history of the award.

"This is a great honor for these athletes and the community at Saratoga Central Catholic," said Robert Stulmaker, Assistant Director of the NYSPHSAA. "Of the 74 schools in New York that could contend for the award, Saratoga Central Catholic came up on top. This is the first time a Section II bowling team has won the award."

The student athletes and their GPAs are:
Katherine Bedard - 99
Spencer Carey - 98.75
Arik Torkelson - 98.25
Mason Crane - 99.67
Patrick Bunk - 98.5
Harry Sears - 91
Christopher Larson - 97.31

"This is the single greatest athletic and academic honor the school has ever received," Signor said. "This is a good example of what we strive to achieve here at Saratoga Central Catholic."
