One of the country's leading online broker firms has opened a new office in Saratoga Springs.

Scottrade opened its 399th office in Saratoga on March 23. While some people are skeptical of the stock market and the state of the economy right now, executives at Scottrade said they believe that Saratoga Springs is a thriving area with a market for online trading.
"We see Saratoga Springs as a great opportunity for us. It's a growing community and we are a growing company. I can see the two growing together," said Saratoga Springs Branch Manager Jeff Goliber.
As an online broker, Scottrade offers a low cost way for the average person to enter the market, self-directed accounts and research tools. They do not give advice on the market or trading, however. Brokers can help with Scottrade tutorials and answer account-related questions.
"We help to give the average person access. A lot of people are nervous about stocks. Our company allows our customers to come in and use the branch for face-to-face interaction with professionals. Our customers know where to go and who to talk to when they have questions or need help," Goliber said.
The Saratoga Springs Branch will be an asset to both new and old customers who live above the Albany region. With an ever-growing population and new jobs being added in Malta with The Foundry, Saratoga Springs was a natural pick for the new branch.
"We feel it is important to have branch offices where our customers work and live," said Rodger Riney, Scottrade founder, president and CEO, in a statement. "While most of our customers trade online, our local offices allow us to provide a better customer experience for online investors."
Customers of Scottrade run across the gamut, Goliber said. Anyone from college students to grandparents who want to buy stock for their grandchildren come to the offices for more information. At Scottrade there is no cost to open an account and a $500 deposit required. Many of the stocks can be purchased for $7 per trade.
Scottrade was named Highest Investor Satisfaction by J.D. Power and Associates and also Top 100 Places to Work by FORTUNE Magazine.
The Saratoga Springs branch is Scottrade's 21st location in New York State. The branch will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached at (518) 584-4060. After-hours support is also available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.scottrade.com.
