Education - Students create spring window display

Vote 0 Votes Saratoga News & Events
Spring is finally here, and Impressions of Saratoga is showing their spirit with student-made window displays.

Third-graders from Caroline Street Elementary School and teachers Mrs. Pipino, Mrs. Kerls and Mrs. Terry created the window display which features all of the sure signs of spring: flowers, butterflies, dragonflies and lady bugs.

For both employees of Impressions of Saratoga and the crew from Caroline Street Elementary, this was the first time they have participated in an activity which includes collaboration from the school district and local businesses.

While brainstorming with her employees over the winter, Impressions of Saratoga owner Marianne Barker remembered a previous employee of hers, Rebecca Pipino, is now a teacher at the elementary school and contacted her to begin the project.

"I just got thinking about what to do for spring - how to celebrate it. We are always doing something with our windows, so I thought, 'why not include kids from the community?'" Barker said.

The artwork will be on display in the five windows facing Phila Street in Impressions.

"The community members help keep us in business, so I feel that we have to help them in any way we can. The parents and kids can walk by the store and pick out their own artwork. It is helping to get people downtown as well," Barker added.

As a token of thanks from Impressions of Saratoga, Barker will be giving all participants a gift that correlates to the project in the window.

According to Pipino, the Saratoga Springs City School District is always looking for ways to get involved in the community.

"Activities like this helps let the children know they have support not only at home and at school, but out in the community. It has a positive effect on everyone involved," Pipino said. "I've always loved the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child,' and this is just one way to prove that statement true."

To view the window display, stop by Impressions of Saratoga located at 368 Broadway on the corner of Phila Street.
