The first of several phases of renovations at the historic Gideon Putnam Resort has been completed, including the addition of Putnam's Restaurant.

The restaurant has merged Saratoga Grille and Georgian Room dining area to offer guests fine dining in a casual and comfortable atmosphere, General Manager Tim Smith said.
The brand new menu will feature various items from lighter fare salads and appetizers to flat bread pizzas and New York strip steaks.

"Putnam's will bring a new level of culinary excellence to our guests at Gideon Putnam Resort," said Executive Chef Brian Sterner. "I'm excited and passionate about this new menu and Gideon Putnam's renewed commitment to culinary operations."

Sterner has been instrumental in designing the new menu for Putnam's and has also contributed recipes to Delaware North's (operator of Gideon Putnam Resort) 2006 cookbook

"Pathways to Plate" which can be found on the menu.

In order to help local businesses, Putnam's menu utilizes locally grown produce for the freshest foods and guests will be offered the famous "Saratoga Chips," which are made on site at the resort.

Keeping in the focus of using local ingredients, Putnam's also features locally brewed beers and wines.

"I'm very excited about the changes taking place around the resort, beginning with Putnam's. It's an exciting new addition and is just one of several ongoing renovation projects that Delaware North is undertaking at the property," Smith added.

Aside from Putnam's, Delaware North is planning a $18 million renovation of the resort, including the Roosevelt Bath and Spa in the Saratoga Spa State Park. The renovations are expected to take place over the next 18 years in several phases so as to not disrupt guests at the resort. So far, Delaware North is planning to improve the hotel's guest accommodations, lobby, corridors and dining room.

"The hotel was constructed in the 1930s and is now included as a member of the Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The historic significance and the importance of creating the ultimate guest experience were both carefully considered in the renovation plan," Smith added.

The next phase of the renovation process is currently being planned and Smith is currently looking at the infrastructure of the resort.

"The first phase was a cosmetic renovation, now we need to start looking at the structure. This is a historic building and we need to make sure that it can withstand time," Smith said.

"The long-term commitment will include multiple building repairs and system upgrade phases, including new and restored windows that will be historically appropriate for the Gideon Putnam and eco-friendly."
