The 27th annual Saratoga Care Foundation Summer Benefit Auction may not be until August 5, but it's never too soon to start saving for the hot items that will be up for bid.
This year's theme, "Back in Time," invites guests to visit Victorian
Saratoga and remember the days of horse and buggies and fancy clothing
while giving back to a good cause.
All of the money raised will go to fund Saratoga Hospital's Emergency Department Project which is estimated to cost $30 million. When the project is complete, it will include: 36 new private rooms, four isolation rooms, a six-bed psychiatric/drug and alcohol treatment area, 16 general rooms, a six-bed Prompt Care/Fast Track Unit for less serious illnesses, an eight-bed express admissions unit for observation, state-of-the-art treatment rooms with full cardiac monitoring, in-department X-ray and CAT scanning equipment, isolation rooms accessible directly from outside via a decontamination shower, negative pressure rooms for respiratory isolation, flat screen televisions and Wi-Fi capability in all rooms, a dedicated room for pediatric and adult forensic exams and 40 additional full-time staff.
This year's top auction item is the "I Do Package," an all-inclusive wedding package for a New Year's wedding at Canfield Casino on Dec. 30, 2010. The package includes every last detail from dresses, caterers, a rehearsal dinner at Hattie's to a honeymoon in St. Thomas.
"This really is the premier auction item this year and every piece of it was donated by local businesses -- no chain stores or national brands," said event chairperson Christopher Watt. "All the winner will have to do is pick up the dress the day of and show up to the ceremony. Everything will be taken care of."
The package has an estimated value of $65,750. No matter how much the highest bidder pays, every penny will be donated toward the ER project.
"The only thing we needed to pay for was the Canfield Casino. Aside from that, everything was donated. Everyone has worked so hard for this," Watt said.
Aside from the "I Do Package," there will be 34 live auction items up for bid and 74 silent auction items. Some of these items include: St. Patrick's Day in Dublin, Ireland, a tapas party for 10, a "staycation" including a Whirlpool spa, deck and landscaping valued at $30,000, tickets to all Live Nation concerts at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and a contest with 99 champagne glasses containing cubic zirconium jewelry and one glass that will contain a one-karat diamond.
The Saratoga Care Benefit Auction will take place on August 5 at The Lodge located on Nelson and Crescent Avenues from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Watt and Julie Bonacio are the event chairpersons with Mrs. Marylou Whitney and Mr. John Hendrickson as honorary chairpersons. Tickets to attend the event are $150 per person.
Reservations can be made by calling the Saratoga Hospital Foundation Office at (518) 583-8340. Attendees may also pay at door for both events.
