Ballston Spa - David F. Moyer, LCDR, U.S. Navy, Retired, loving husband and father, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on May 11, 2009, surrounded by his wife and children at his home. He was 80 years old.

Born in Nunda, NY, he was the son of George L. and Mildred H. Moyer. Lieutenant Commander Moyer joined the Navy in March 1946 and retired in September 1975. All of his sea service was performed aboard submarines. He served aboard the USS EX-U3008, a German U-boat that was taken as the spoils of war, the USS Corsair (SS435) for 8? years, and the nuclear powered USS Tullibee (SSN597). He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Navy Expeditionary Medal for Special Submarine Operations while serving on the Tullibee. After nearly thirty years of naval service he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After retirement from the Navy, he obtained a real estate license and was associated with McNeary Real Estate here in Saratoga Springs. In 1978 he was appointed Assistant Assessor in this city until he permanently retired in 1985.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Uniformed Benefit Association, the American Legion Adirondack Post 70, the Holland Club (submarine vets) and the United Methodist Church of Saratoga Springs. He was a volunteer at the Wesley Health Care Center for many years.

David was the patriarch of a large, loving family. Through example he taught his children responsibility, honesty and the value of hard work. He enjoyed family gatherings filled with stories and laughter, boating on Lake George, gardening, playing golf with his close friends and rooting for the Yankees.

David is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor Moyer of Saratoga Springs, his seven children and their spouses: Patricia and Harold Grace of Jacksonville, Florida, David and Debbie Moyer of West Palm Beach, Florida, Linda and Donald Bowden of Canajoharie, NY, Irene Powell and Paul Feinstock of Newburgh, NY, Andrea and Tom Green of Saratoga Springs, Jackson and Susan Moyer of Wilton and Kimberly and Scott Dellis of Ballston Spa. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends gathered on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of Saratoga Springs. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Henning Rd. United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.
