Hard work and dedication have paid off for graduating seniors and it
will all be realized in the coming weeks at commencement ceremonies
across the county.
Mr. Frank P. Crowley, Principal of Saratoga Springs High School, announced that Timothy Lynch, son of Joseph and Tracy Lynch of Saratoga Springs, has been named Valedictorian of the Class of 2009 and that Maeve Murray, daughter of William Murray and Eileen Finneran of Saratoga Springs, has been named the Salutatorian at Saratoga Springs High School.
Lynch has been a member of the Academic Team, Latin Club, Mock Trial Team, National Honor Society, Pep Band, Science Bowl and Ultimate Frisbee Club while attending Saratoga Springs High School. He is planning to attend Fordham University where he will pursue a career in the field of business, law or public service.
Finneran has been a member of the Academic Team, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Pep Band and Science Bowl. She is planning to attend SUNY Binghamton where she will pursue a career in psychology or education.
Ballston Spa High School Principal Kristi Jensen recently introduced the top-graduating students in the Class of 2009. Valedictorian Derek Croote and Salutatorian Michael Markiewicz were among 27 students who received the President's Education Award for achieving a grade point average over 95 during their high school careers.
Croote will receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors. He completed twelve AP/UHS, two Honors level courses and his cumulative GPA is 98.56 and will be attending Brown University in pursuit of a degree in engineering.
Markiewicz's academic record includes 13 AP/UHS courses and two Honors level courses. His cumulative GPA is 98.15 and he will receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors. Markiewicz will attend Princeton University in the fall and will pursue a major in engineering.
Schuylerville Central School District's Class of 2009 finishes the year with nearly 80 percent of the graduating class planning to attend college or enroll in military service. Among this year's many success stories are the district's top students are Valedictorian Rebecca Brown and Salutatorian Haley Beauregard.
Brown is graduating with a 98.41 academic average. She plans to attend Houghton College in the fall, where she'll major in childhood education. Throughout her high school career, Brown has been involved in many school activities, such as Symphonic Band, Spanish Club, the Quiz Team, WAVE (Working Against Violence Everywhere) and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). Additionally, she has had her literature chosen for publication in the district's art and literary journal, Looking Glass, and has participated in Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School's German Exchange Program. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for four years, has been on the high honor roll throughout her high school career and has received outstanding achievement awards in the following subjects: Honors English, Honors Earth Science, Advanced Placement U.S. History and Spanish IV. She is the daughter of David and MaryJo Brown.
Beauregard is graduating with a 98.17 academic average and is planning to pursue a career in the field of acting/theater. Beauregard has participated in many school activities, including WAVE, the Drama Club, MAESTRO (Musicians Aiding Everyone, Serving Together, Reaching Others), Women's Select Chorus and the Chamber Singers. Her theatrical and musical accomplishments are numerous, such as participation in NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) competitions and in the All-County Music Competitions for voice. Haley has also been chosen to appear in school drama productions, as well as theatrical productions from Schuylerville Community Theater and Home Made Theater in Saratoga Springs. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has been on the high honor roll during her entire high school career, and achieved a perfect score on the French Regents and the English Regents exams. She is the daughter of Daniel and Eva Beauregard.
Finally, Kaelan Anderson, daughter of David and Patty Anderson of Saratoga Springs, has been named Valedictorian of the class of 2009 at Saratoga Central Catholic. She has been a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society throughout her career at SCCHS. This year she was President of the NHS. She was also secretary of the student council and class representative in her sophomore and junior years.
Spencer James Carey, son of Margot and Michael Monaghan of Saratoga Springs, has been name Salutatorian at Saratoga Central Catholic. Throughout his high school career, Carey has always challenged himself with the most difficult classes, and has even taken math and English courses at Skidmore College. He aspires to be a doctor of medicine. He is currently a student in the New Visions Program, which provides the unique opportunity to shadow health care professionals in almost every field and setting. Carey plans to attend the Honors College at University of Arizona in the fall.
