Opinion - Farewell Saratoga

Vote 0 Votes Saratoga News & Events
It has been more than a year since I joined Saratoga TODAY and in that time I have had a lot of great experiences covering the city as a reporter and getting to know the community. However, there comes a time when all good things must come to an end and that time has arrived for me at Saratoga TODAY.

For those who might be wondering the reason for my departure, I would first like to assure you that it has nothing to do with my relationship with the paper as everyone there has been very supportive of my decision. But rather, it has to do with my own desire to pursue other career interests which include graduate school, freelance writing and a full-time position in my original field of music or possibly my new found love, politics - the sky's the limit.

Aside from furthering my career, a major factor in the decision for my departure has to do with my life-long desire to relocate. Being relatively young, I figure this is the best time for me to make such a move because otherwise I fear it would have been something I regretted for the rest of my life.

Going along with this idea, I will be spending the majority of the summer on the road, traveling across the country solo. It is something I have always wanted to do, even before I first read Jack Kerouac's "On the Road," and this is my chance to make another one of my life goals a reality before the responsibilities of life become too big for me to invest in such an adventure.

As for my time at the Saratoga TODAY, it has been a great experience and an honor for me to write for the paper over the past year and a half.  I always loved journalism but never really thought I would land a job as a reporter, having been a music industry major in college, but management took a chance on me and I like to think it paid off for both of us. This was also my first real job after college, and what a job it has been. While at the paper, I have worn an array of hats - Reporter, Freelancer, Sports Editor, Managing Editor - which has in turn allowed me to develop a variety of skills that I will need to compete in today's highly competitive job market.

In closing, I would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to read my stories over the past year. I hope you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
Good night and good luck...
