Coming on board at Saratoga Today is really the fulfillment of a dream I've had as long as I can remember.
I was a child of the 1960's and '70's, and I remember that there were two newspapers a day on the doorstep. A morning edition when I left running for the school bus, and another waiting when I came home afterwards. I was a verbal/visual kid and they didn't know what to do with us back then. Unlike some, I had no difficulty entertaining myself. The toy manufacturer Mattel designed great toys, and I remember asking for a small printing press they called a Linoprinter. I've always drawn or painted and always had stories I wanted to tell. I still have that printer, in the same room at the house with my Etch-a Sketch, troll, and Scooba-Doo talking beatnik doll.
Those newspapers and the unforgettable front page photographs still exist in my head like a slide show chronicling those years, shaping my sensibilities with a need to go after the story or to get that picture in a way that became very much a part of who I am. I developed a tremendous drive to ferret out the facts or to capture an event spontaneously, forever frozen in time in a photograph. I can remember being inspired by powerful images, like those coming back from Vietnam, that of Jackie Kennedy's blood stained pink suit as she watched in obvious shock as Lyndon Johnson was being sworn in, or when the Beatles came to America. I saved many of them, and I still smile when I look back and remember the adrenaline I felt when the newspaper came.
We at Saratoga Today want very much to have the privilege of telling your story; and we invite all of our readers to keep us informed about the events that shape your lives. Let's be part of history together; help us tell the world that Saratoga Springs is the place where memories are captured every single day. I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to be a part of your lives.
