Sports - Hearn wins again

Brett Hearn romped to his fourth win of the season last Friday night at Albany Saratoga Speedway. Possibly still angered by a late race call last week that placed him third instead of second, the "New Jersey Jet" drove like someone with a point to prove. Starting 12th on the grid, Hearn was slicing through traffic and quickly put himself into the Top Five by Lap 5. One lap later, Hearn made a daring move between Don Ronca and Vince Quenneville that put him second just as the Yellow Flag waved for last week's winner, Jeff Trombley, who spun out in the first turn. On the restart, Hearn was now sitting next to Elmo Reckner who had paced the field up to this point. Reckner got the jump on Hearn when the Green came out but a slight miscue by Reckner in the fourth turn on Lap 7 was all Hearn needed as he flew by and pulled away. The race was now for second. Reckner gave up second to Matt DeLorenzo on Lap 10 but, just five laps later, Ken Tremont, Jr. blasted by DeLorenzo where he would stay for the remaining 15 laps.

Tremont had one last shot at Hearn when the Caution came out on Lap 30, but Hearn would not be denied his fourth victory of the 09 season.

Ronnie Johnson passed DeLorenzo for third with two to go. DeLorenzo held onto fourth with Dave Camara rounding out the Top Five.

Mark Kislowski used a Lap 8 restart to pass Matt Depew and cruise to his second Sportsman feature win of the year. The caution-plagued race also saw a great run by Tim Hartman, Sr. who was filling in for Mike Tholin in his #24. Hartman had passed several cars on his way to fourth place only to be sidelined by a broken drive shaft on Lap 8.

Depew hung onto second over Kory Sandstedt, Whitey Slavin and Rob Langevin.
Ballston Spa's Derrick McGrew came out on top after a great mid-race battle with Bryan Davis to win his second Budget Sportsman race of the year. Davis finished second with Tim Hartman, Jr., Mike Burdo and Jack Swinton following.

Chuck Towslee led flag-to-flag in the 25-lap Pro-Stock feature. A Lap 1 spin by Bill Smith collected a half dozen cars that included Points Leader Kim Duell and Kenny Martin, knocking both out of the event.

Towslee had to hold off Jeremy Pitts late in the race to secure his first win of the year. Cale Kneer came home third with Ed Thompson fourth and Lori Langevin fifth.

Malta's Jon Miller won the always exciting Limited feature. Miller raced side-by-side with Dan Petronis and Ken Conroy on Laps 15 and 16 before the Red Flag was displayed on Lap 17 for a nasty rollover by Mike Ostrander. Ostrander flipped off the backstretch causing heavy damage to his #62 and injuring his arm in the process. When racing resumed, Miller held off Petronis for his first win. Conroy, Dan Older and Dave Billings rounded out the Top Five.
Other winners last Friday were Ralph Utter in the Mini Sprints, Travis Tromans and Colin Clow in the Mini Stocks and Andy Smith was the Duke Stock winner.

Racing continues this Friday with all regular divisions and the second Enduro of the season. Race time is now 6:30 p.m. for the Mini-Stock feature with Modified qualifying to follow.
