By the third week in August, the Saratoga Army Navy store on Broadway will call the Wilton Plaza their new home.
As the signs in the storefront window indicate, the work wear and sporting goods store will be relocating to the new plaza just in front of Wilton Mall.
"Our lease was up and we saw this as a good opportunity for the store," said co-owner Arno Reihs, Jr.
The new location will allow for better parking options and a larger space for merchandise, and Reihs has plans to expand on his current product lines with an emphasis on footwear.
"We cater to the working man. Broadway is a great location for food and boutiques, but when a guy in a truck can't find a spot to park to get to our store, he's more likely to drive on by to the next shop. We want year-round, local customers; the everyday worker, not just the tourists who come here in the summer," he said.
Most of the items at the Broadway location are 40 percent off regular price for their moving sale.
"It's been pretty busy in here with the sale, but we are really looking forward to opening up in Wilton and giving better access to our customers," Reihs added.
Saratoga Army Navy opened in 1986 in Niskayuna as a family-owned business run by Reihs and his father, Arno Reihs, Sr. When brothers Derik and Brett Reihs joined the team, two more stores opened in Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs. The current Saratoga Army Navy location in Saratoga Springs was opened in 1999.
"I knew for a long time that I wanted to own my own business. When my father and I started out, we were more of a sporting goods store. That is a difficult market to work in today, so we decided to expand to work wear and foot wear," Reihs said.
Some of the main brands they sell include Red Wing, Chippewa, Carolina, Wolverine, Bates, Merrell, New Balance, Dunham, Hi-Tec and Minnetonka. Their clothing brands consist of men's and women's Carhartts', Woolrich, Dickies, Duofold and Under Armour.
"Our safety footwear is one of our biggest sellers. About 80 percent of our sales are in the shoe department. That seems to be where we please most of our customers," Reihs said.
Along with the stores, Saratoga Army Navy has a mobile shoe store - a van that will go directly to offices or work sites to fit and sell work boots as well as online sales.
