As Hall of Fame Trainer, Leroy Jolley once said: "Who loves a horse
more than a 13-year-old girl?" The insightful gentleman knows horses
and the sport of racing them--and he knows that, in order to grow the
fan base of racing, the sport must be marketed to the gender that
comprises the majority of paid admissions, and which enjoys a natural,
inborn relationship with the equine species.
NYRA and B95.5 know that the two-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer is on to something: the two organizations have once again joined forces to present the fourth annual Women's Day at the Saratoga Race Course on Wednesday, August 19th.
Women's Day has grown into an event which generates excitement and is joyously anticipated by many, and widely anticipated due to the variety of events, people and experiences that come into play. This fourth year of the event will feature representatives and practitioners of health, beauty, family and educational resources, as well as two exciting new additions to the roster.
The 2009 version of Women's Day will take place on Wednesday, August 19th on and around the beautiful grounds of the country's most important Thoroughbred racing venue.
This year's Women's Day welcomes two exciting booths to the line-up: All Play Stable, a new racing partnership out of Florida and Pennsylvania, will feature a booth at which they'll help patrons sort through the seemingly complex world of partnerships. All Play Stable is Paul H. Rothfuss, Robin Fiester and Saratoga's own horsewoman, Sara Dunham. The group is in the process of creating women's racing partnerships--open only to "...fillies and mares, 25 years old and up..." Racing partnerships by, for and about women: All Play Stable will offer females the opportunity to experience the camaraderie, fellowship and outrageous fun of working together toward common goals while developing new friendships and business alliances. All women who've dreamed of owning a Thoroughbred and racing her are cordially invited to stop by the All Play Stable booth and say 'Hi' to the partners and make new alliances forged by the common love of horses.
The second new booth will be of special interest to any woman or girl who's ever entertained the notion of a career in the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing. Every job at a Thoroughbred racetrack is valuable, and every career in the industry offers opportunities to take one's love of horses; find your niche and advance within the chosen field.
This is the message that NYRA and B95.5 want to drive home for every woman and girl who plans to attend Women's Day. The two companies have joined forces to sponsor a booth--enthusiastically supported by Saratoga TODAY and Saratoga.com--at which girls and women can meet women with careers in racing and peripheral to the sport.
Veterinarians, farriers, owners, trainers, jockeys, exercise riders, hot walkers, breeders, grooms, writers, administrators and forewomen will be on hand to speak one-on-one about their racing vocations. It is also expected that Producer Sophie Watts and Director Katherine Brooks from Los Angeles will be available to contribute to the excitement at the booth. The two women are in town to scout locations as they create the film about the road to history that was forged by the iron-clad prodigy jockey, Julie Krone. The two accomplished filmmakers relish the thought of speaking with women and girls who may also aspire to a career as a racing filmmaker.
It's not often that the opportunity presents itself to meet a professional in the sport of Thoroughbred racing. The women who comprise the stellar cast at the Women in Racing booth at the NYRA/B95.5 Women's Day at Saratoga Race Course are excited about meeting and encouraging all females who may have dreamt of working with or around the horses, but who didn't know what steps to take in order to realize that dream. NYRA and B95.5's insightful inclusion of the new booth is a welcome addition to an event that has built a reputation over the last three years and which has grown with each succeeding summer.
The Women in Racing booth will be open from 11 a.m. until after the last race. For more information about Women's Day, please contact GioAnna Sasso at B95.5: GSasso@albanybroadcasting.com.
