Wheatfields Restaurant to open second location

After years of planning and waiting for the right time, Tim and Colleen Holmes will be opening their second location of Wheatfields Restaurant and Bar in October.
Located in the The Crossings in Clifton Park, Wheatfields will have the same philosophy of the original location: fresh, local products, homemade pasta and an array of fine wines.

"We rolled out a new menu in June and customers have really enjoyed it so far," Colleen said. "Our executive chef Tony Shortway does a really great job and shares the same philosophies as Tim and I. He really embraced what we wanted to accomplish with our menus and fresh, local food policy."

Earlier this summer Wheatfields introduced the Dinner for Four for $44 menu, a healthy alternative to fast food for busy families. Customers simply call ahead and choose a main course, pasta and veggies that will serve four people and is a take-out only special.

"It's perfect for hot nights when its too hot to cook or if a family is on a tight schedule but still wants to have a sit-down dinner," Colleen said. "Trends turn into lifestyle changes, and it's important to us that we serve fresh, healthy foods in a timely fashion. People live in such a fast-paced world that it's hard for some families to find time to sit down for a reasonably-priced meal."

In keeping with trends and lifestyle changes, it is important to Tim and Colleen Holmes to offer new specials and keep and updated menu. Recently they introduced a gluten-free menu, something that is hard to find in an Italian restaurant.

Wheatfields opened at 440 Broadway in 1988 and Tim and Colleen Holmes took over the restaurant in 2004. After remodeling the restaurant in 2006, the Holmes' began to plan on opening their second location.

"We looked at a variety of areas for more than four years before we found the perfect location. Clifton Park is a vibrant town and has a fantastic market for dining. All of the pieces seemed to fall into place, and we are getting ready to start training our employees in September," Colleen said.

They plan to have the restaurant up and running by the first week in October and will be called Wheatfields Bistro and Wine Bar.

So far this summer, Wheatfields has had a successful season.

"Things are going great right now. We are seeing a lot of regional traffic coming through the area. I really think that people are enjoying Saratoga Springs and its beauty for all that it is, and even people who live in the area are deciding to stay home this summer and local businesses are seeing the benefit of that," Colleen said. "We are excited to open up the new market in Clifton Park."
