For Lisa Piccirillo, the past 5 years have been a wonderful and
exhilarating experience. Lisa built a strong performing foundation
during her college years here, eventually becoming part of the 2004
graduating class at Skidmore College.
Now residing in Vermont, she looks back fondly at her days in Saratoga Springs, and forward with relish to her next performance her in town - a return engagement at Caffé Lena next Wednesday, September 16th at 7 p.m.
Her CD, "momentum," was released last year to tremendous acclaim from touring professional songwriters and radio programmers. This verified what locals who had seen her performance in various situations had already learned - this woman had a voice that was an attention-grabber.
Momentum's first track "You Never Say" has been getting a lot of rotations on Vermont Public Radio. After a live segment, Jane Lindstrom, host of Vermont Edition, compared Lisa's voice to bracing "...crystal, cold water." Her single "fall" was included in a May 2009 indie-music sampler entitled 'a taste of triple a' that was delivered to more than 300 AAA (adult album alternative) radio stations throughout the country.
To give you an idea about the company that places her in, the current (August) edition includes a cut from John Fogerty combining with special guest Bruce Springsteen!
Other accolades for Lisa's CD include a 'recommend' designation by Paste Magazine. She will be welcomed by local indie-music friendly WEXT's Chris Wienk on the day of her Caffé Lena show.
There has always been a strong mutual affection for Lisa and Caffé Lena. Starting, as many do, with their Open Mic night, she has appeared there in a Skidmore songwriter 'sampler,' as a vocalist in a Senior Year Jazz Showcase, and combined with Gregory Douglass on a few shows.
"Lisa's voice has that perfect blend of power and grace, strength and clarity," says Caffé Lena Assistant Manager Anne Hodge. "Her talent is enduring making her a singer/songwriter to keep tabs on. She's going places!"
Opening will be Jodie Levinson, a Brooklyn-based recent Skidmore ('08) grad with a complimentary, yet dynamic style.
Admission to the September 16th show is $5. No reservations are necessary. Caffé Lena is located at 47 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs.
