The Saratoga Chamber Players open their 23rd season this evening with two performances featuring music that influenced Edgar Degas.
The concert this evening begins at 8 PM at the United Methodist Church, Fifth Avenue and Henning Road, Saratoga Springs and will be repeated Saturday afternoon September 26 at 3PM at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren Street, Glens Falls. Tickets are $18 foradults, $15 for seniors, $12 for students, and free to children accompanied by an adult.

The musicians for these performances are Artistic director Jill Levy on violin; Eliot Bailen, cello; Susan Rotholz, flute; and Margaret Kampmeier, piano, The program will feature works by Mozart, Roussel, Enescu, Debussy and Ravel. The program will show how an understanding of the interrelationship of the arts allowed for new ways of seeing the world and yielded new forms, new instruments, and new uses of old methods.

"I am excited by the upcoming season," Lynne Gelber, President of The Board of Directors for the Saratoga Chamber Players commented. "Jill (Levy) will be bringing back many of the outstanding musicians who each season enrich the cultural landscape of this area. They are now friends and Jill loves working with them and the process of figuring out together the best interpretation of the pieces they will play. Pianist Jeannette Koekkoek lives in Italy and was not here last year, but she will be back for two concerts, one in December just with Jill and the other in April with Jill and cellist Judith Serkin."

"I am also proud that the Saratoga Chamber Players had been a part of ArtsFest since its inception. The 2010 festival will be our second concert with the support of the Saratoga/Chekhov Sister City Program.  The first was the critically acclaimed production of Stravinsky's "L'Histoire du Soldat."  This year Jill will bring the rich tones of Russian music to the audience with Borodin, Glazunov and Stravinsky."

The mission of the Saratoga Chamber Players is to present concerts in Saratoga and Warren Counties of New York. Their repertoire includes traditional and contemporary pieces offered by professional musicians from the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. These concerts are sponsored in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.
