Stewart's Shops Philly Vanilla ice cream is the best in the world.
The judges for the upcoming World Dairy Expo 2009, to be held in Madison, Wisconsin, rated Stewart's Philly Vanilla Ice Cream number one.
Philly Vanilla beat 24 other contenders from around the globe to be named the #1 Vanilla ice cream in the world. "This is a great example of the focus on fresh ingredients and quality that our customers enjoy everyday. All of us at Stewart's thank the hardworking people in our Ice Cream department," Stewart's Shops President Gary Dake said in a written statement The judges at this year's World Dairy Championship Dairy Product Contest tested all the entries for flavor, body & texture, appearance & color, and melting quality. The award will be presented to Stewart's Shops on September 29 at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. Philly Vanilla is named after Philly Dake, the inventor of Stewart's Make Your Own Sundae, and the Make Your Own Scholarship for college age children of Stewart's employees.
City Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
Monday morning, September 14, marked the official groundbreaking of the Saratoga Springs City Center's renovation. The groundbreaking ceremony continued the tradition of the Center's original groundbreaking in 1983; city officials and Saratoga Springs children broke ground with shovels, one of which was used at the original center's groundbreaking ceremony.
The Center's expansion will double the building's square footage, and provide more room for conferences, exhibits and events, with the construction of a 22,000 square feet addition to the current building that is expected to be complete by the fall of 2010.
Milton-bound airplane crashes
A small plane bound for Saratoga County Airport carrying six passengers caught fire, forcing the pilot to land the plane in Sheffield, Massachusetts at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15. The single-engine Cessna 208 which is a non-commercial aircraft, was heading to the Milton airport from Farmington, Long Island. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, the plane was fully engulfed in flames. According to police, all six passengers escaped injury. However, the neighborhood where the plane crashed was evacuated. Massachusetts State Police Sgt. David Mahan said the Berkshire county neighborhood was evacuated as a precaution.
Ellis Hospital extends to Saratoga County
Ellis Hospital in Schenectady released plans to pump $78 million into an expansion project. The project will involve updating Bellevue Women's Center, a new emergency room at the hospital's Nott St. campus, renovating the Ellis Health Center and creating a Health Home for primary care services,, and building a satellite 24/7 emergency depart. in Saratoga County.
