The Saratoga Springs varsity boy's soccer team held their Soccer Day
clinic at Maple Avenue Middle School on Sunday, October 18.
In an effort to bring the community together and spark an interest in the sport for younger, potential players, the Blue Streaks invited Saratoga youngsters to their practice field to teach them about the game of soccer. First year Saratoga Springs Varsity coach, Jeff Geller planned the clinic.
"We want to get the kids out here to see the team and become interested in soccer. The clinic gave them a chance to work with and look up to the older varsity players. They are a good example for these kids, someone to want to be like," Geller said.
The varsity players demonstrated skills and techniques, showing the younger players how to play the game like a Blue Streak.Thirty-two aspiring soccer players in grades one through eight participated in the clinic, which was followed by a 30-minute blue versus white varsity team scrimmage.Aspiring Blue Streaks soccer players preregistered for the event, making a $10 donation to the Saratoga Springs Boys Soccer Booster Club.
"The team was awesome. It brought out a side in them that I've never seen before. I think it brought out the kid in them," Geller said.
