Dress for Success...For Less!

In this job market, you're lucky to get an interview let alone land a job. Candidates need to impress on paper and in person, so when it comes time for the big interview it's important to make sure you're dressed for the part.
Believe it or not, your appearance speaks volumes about you, especially in terms of a first impression. Most job interviews last less than  an hour, that's sixty minutes to discuss your qualifications and only one chance to appear as qualified as you sound.

Now, that doesn't mean pure aesthetic appeal can land you a job, but showing up to an interview looking refreshed, put together and ready to work certainly can't hurt your chances. Why not let your outfit work for you?

The best part is that you don't need to spend a fortune on dressing for success.

We met up with Meghan Butler, a twenty-something marketing pro with a job interview just a week away. Looking for the right attire and the right price brought her to Treasures, a consignment boutique on West Ave in Saratoga. Meghan put together a lot of great looks that show her personality and sophistication.

Meghan is wearing a pink Jones New York wrap-around dress ($10), with a simple black blazer ($4). The dress' light material flatters her figure, without showing off too much of her shape, while its vibrant color suggests something of Meghan's cheerful personality. A black blazer is a wise investment at any price, but for only $4 Meghan completes this look and adds a versatile piece to her wardrobe.

Here, Meghan is wearing a black T. Garment pencil skirt ($5.60) and a lime green Banana Republic button-down ($15). This look is classic and professional. A simple gold chain with pearly beads adds a little extra flair ($4.50), showing off just enough personality and personal style.

Next, Meghan tried on an earth-tone ensemble that really makes her stand out. She is wearing a white ruffle-front Kenneth Cole blouse ($10), a beige Lauren by Ralph Lauren zip-up cardigan with a leather-and-snap collar closure ($30), and a pair of khaki colored pin-striped pants ($8). A faux-pearl double strand necklace seals the deal ($4.50). Even though this outfit lacks bold color, it's the fine details of this look that brighten her appearance.

Here, Meghan is wearing a periwinkle Banana Republic button-down ($15), a mod-pattern accent scarf ($3.50), and a pair of Episode wool ankle pants ($23). She looks practical, yet stylish, and ready to work.

Just in case it gets chilly, Meghan will be prepared with this white Anne Klein pea coat ($23). The coat's soft look is both sophisticated and simple.

At the end of her interview-attire shopping mission, Meghan decided on the lime green button-down and can't-go-wrong-with-it black pencil skirt. She spent just $20.60, making her choice a smart one. Hopefully Meghan's professional look will help her make the perfect first impression.

During the shoot, a stunning blazer caught Mark's eye - he just had to try it on. Mark struck a pose and a great bargain with this ashy Cricketeer wool sports coat; he purchased the blazer and matching slacks for just $20.
