Jodie Fitz Gets your Kids Cooking!

Vote 0 Votes Saratoga News & Events
In Jodie Fitz's perfect world, every child will have healthy meals and snacks that are faster to prepare than the time it takes for you to get thru the drive-thru at dinner time. That's because the kids are an important component of helping prepare the meals.
A mom herself (her 3 children are Cameron - 17, Jonathan - 12 and Sydney - 6), Jodie began cooking with her grandmother as a young girl helping to prepare for holidays and found she had picked up many of her cooking habits without even realizing it. Later, as a young mother she found that the cooking experience made the kitchen the center hub of the home.

Jodie relates: "I would ask my kids on the car ride home about their day and seemingly 'nothing' has happened. But put us in the kitchen at dinner time and suddenly everything about their day comes pouring out...I loved that our kitchen became a comfort zone!"

Combine that love for cooking, children and an unlimited supply of energy and the result is the launching of the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club last month.

Maureen Murphy, Price Chopper's Manager of Consumer Services and Trends, said "We felt that this fall was a great time to introduce the Kids Cooking Club - with the economy the way it is more families are looking for activities to do at home - and cooking, once learned is a lifelong creative skill. And Jodie is perfect for this - she loves to energetically encourage that creativity. Kids love her, and it is obvious that she loves them!"

Since that time, Jodie and her talents have been on display about once a week in various in-store locations throughout the Price Chopper's market area. There are 2 great opportunities to see her locally: at the Saratoga Race Course tomorrow and as part of Downtown Saratoga Springs' Fall Festival Weekend on Sunday, November 1 (see side box for details).
On page 18, Jodie has supplied us with a sneak preview of the recipe of the healthy snack she and the kids will create tomorrow - Mini yogurt flower pots! Jodie says about this and her other recipes, "I'm all about the quick and easy and as a busy mother of three, I don't always have any other choice!"

You can get these and other recipes from her blog: "Yikes! There are Kids in My Kitchen," which she somehow finds time to write.

At the Fall Festival date, kids will get the opportunity to create (and eat!) edible eyeballs in keeping with the Halloween theme.

Jodie feels grateful and very fortunate to pursue a career in an area that she obviously loves and one that allows her the chance to stay close to her children. You can find out more about Jodie's future escapades in our market at: www2.pricechopper.com/kids/
