An out-of-the-way jewel in Washington County is the Fort Salem Theater
in Salem, New York. It is worth considering a journey there to see its
"Fall at the Fort" Saturday cabaret Series, a set of seven performances
which features performers from Broadway, Manhattan cabaret, national
tours and television appearances.
Kicking off the series on Saturday is a presentation by the international performer, actress-singer-comedienne Ms. Laura Roth in a show entitled "The Way They Were." Ms. Roth has appeared on television, radio and the stage in a variety of singing and acting roles. Amazingly versatile, she has been called a "show stopper" by the New York Post and "one of the world's leading cabaret singers" by Show Business newspaper. Audiences have enjoyed her four octave range in London, Paris and New York City; her public radio show (originating from the Capital Region's WAMC) was broadcast live to seven states; her holiday shows were performed before thousands at the Hilton Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
Laura has intensely studied the work, mannerisms and clothing styles of the greatest female entertainers of the twentieth century, including Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, Patsy Cline, and numerous others. Ms. Roth performs year-round throughout North America in shows featuring unique blends of music and comedy appealing to all ages.
The balance of the Saturday Cabaret Series includes:
October 17 -
Kathy Beaver in "I'm Flying"
October 24 -
Tony Nominee Martin Vidnovic
October 31 -

in "Highway of Life"
