On October 1, John Berghammer and his wife, Melissa, became the proud owners of Ace Pest Control Specialists, Inc.
After having been working for the company for 23 of the 25 years of its existence, Berghammer said that this was always something he had hoped for.
"I have a good group of workers and a solid background, so I knew for a long time that this was something I wanted," he said.
The year-round operation serves more than 800 contracted customers and their wide-ranging needs from carpenter ants and termites to mice and moles.
"This is a busy time of year for rodents. It's getting colder and they are trying to get into houses," he said. "We have had our wildlife removal certification for about two years now and can help customers get rid of rodents that are already in the house and secure the exterior of the house so more can't get in."
He added that while it's easy to get the pests out, exclusion work, or keeping the pests out, is what can prevent problems from ever happening. This can be tricky though, with some rodents.
"Squirrels are like aerial acrobats up in the trees and on the roofs so it's important to screen off or tighten up vents and make sure that all light carpentry work that may need to be done on a house is completed," he said.
Ace Pest Control Specialists, Inc. is also certified in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, pesticide application and termite control and is a member of the NYS Pest Control Association.
With more than 80 years of combined industry expertise between Berghammer and his seven employees, continuing education and keeping up with the latest trends is important for the business.
"We stress continuing education, and are practiced in the newest pest control techniques and safety recommendations," he said.
