Scotties and Streaks Shoot for the Superbowl

Scotties: The number two Empire-Division Scotties face Guilderland on October 31, for the Class AA Semi-finals.
The Scotties are number two in the Empire Divsion, Guilderland is ranked fourth.
Although the Scotties defeated the Flying Dutchmen 39-0 earlier this season, they are still expecting a difficult game.

"They're going to get their yards, so we have to try to limit their plays," Coach John Bowen said, during the team's Tuesday practice.

"We are thinking defensively first off," he said.

The Scotties are looking out for Guilderland's Quartberack, who is known for making any throw on the field.

The plan is to establish the run offensively, but  focus on   working a steep defense.
Mark Seager, Scotties Quarterback and Captain, along with Nick Gallo, is the catalyst for pushing offensively. He's had a strong season, and scored two important touchdowns against the Dutchmen  during the October 16 game.

Seniors Nick Tubolino, Josh Fabian, Alex Nicol, Kyle Warmt and Matt Clark could carry at anytime Bowen said.

Scotties' Quarterfinals  21-14 victory over Bethlehem was a big offensive success, with Tubolino scoring three touchdowns. The Scotties ended Bethlehem's season, 3-5.

The Scotties only loss this season was to Saratoga,17-14.

Bowen has seen a tremendous amount of senior leadership this season.

"Whenever a team has late team success you can usually look to a solid senior backbone," he said.

Blue Streaks

The Bluestreaks are up against the Schenectady Patriots on Saturday, October 31.
Although the Streaks' confidence has grown with each game this season, they are still not satisfied.

The plan is to go all the way to the Class AA Superbowl, which means deafeating the number two Liberty Division Patriots this weekend.

The Streaks are confident defensively, but are keeping their eye on Schenectady's Quarterback, Herman Seise.

"He is a tremendous skills player. He's only about 140 pounds, but runs like a 200 pounder," Jones said.

Both teams lost this season to LaSalle, which was Saratoga's only loss this season. The Patriots lost 12-0, and the Streaks lost 21-16.

However, the Streaks consider the Patriots strong opponents and expect a very competitive game.

"We certainly have our work cut out for us," Coach Terry Jones said. "It's all about handling their defense, working on the things that have gotten us to this point."

In the Quarterfinals, the Streaks dominated Colonie 34-6, bringing them to this weekend's big game.

But making it to the Semi-finals is not nearly enough for the Streaks. The team won't have met all of their goals for the season unless they win the AA's.

Saratoga aimed for an undefeated season within their Division, which they accomplished. The Streaks are currently ranked first in the Empire Division.

The Streak's made it this far in 2008; they won't b e satisfied until they've made it to the Superbolw and grabbed the winning title.

"It will be a very competitive game, and a good game for whoever goes out and executes better," Jones said
