Proprietor Joseph Mack invites all his friends and neighbors to come
over and view his newest creation - the Seven Horse Pub, on the site of
the former 43 Phila Street Bistro. Since acquiring the property in the
spring of 2009, Mr. Mack and his crew has completely redone the
interior of the building: installing a new custom 40+ foot red and
white oak bar, tables, floors, bathrooms and kitchen.
Rather than rushing to get open and attempting to capitalize on the prospect of tourists flooding the new pub, there was only a soft opening of Seven Horse Pub during track season, and this was done with minimal fanfare and promotion and a view towards the long-term, as the entire vibe of the establishment is geared towards year-round residents and the local scene. They are serious about comfort here. The exposed brick wall behind the bar dovetails well with the new tile and stone inlays that have been installed along the entrance.
Attention to little details is evident: all around you are aspects of the renovation work that are understated, but apparent - down to the phone number: (518) 581-0777.
For Saturday's grand opening party, a large tent will be installed along the adjacent alley (Lena Lane), and from 7 - 11 P.M. Mr. Mack and his staff will greet one and all accompanied by the musical stylings of the Tequila Mockingbirds, a wine tasting, food samples and specials.
Mr. Mack has already made his mark on the Saratoga restaurant scene in a big way. In 1996 he acquired the long-dormant Horseshoe Inn on Nelson and Gridley Avenues adjacent to the Saratoga Race Course. That facility was completely renovated into one of THE places to go as part of your summer race course experience. More importantly, Joe created an atmosphere that was comfortable and accessible for all residents year-round, and within short order "The Horseshoe" received accolades and raves for the quality of its service staff, excellent menu items that ranged from "regular guy" pub fare such as wings, pulled pork and burgers to specials and entrees that were upscale enough in presentation to rival the level of excellence anywhere in town, and at relatively affordable prices.
The same philosophy towards the menu appears to be in place at the Seven Horse Pub. While there is some enhancement of the menu still to come, the basic framework is more than in place, including Horseshoe veteran Chef Justin Moran.
Also still to come is the opening of the upstairs room at Seven Horse Pub, which will primarily be used for private parties and dining. This is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2010.
Those who have been going to The Horseshoe Inn for awhile will be pleasantly surprised to find some of his excellent bar staff has followed Mr. Mack to the Seven Horse Pub. Actually, it's not a surprise at all. Lia, Amy and Steven are apt to be having as good a time as you will on your visits there, and are as responsible as anyone for the comfortable atmosphere that makes it seem like this place has been going for decades already.
