The Thoroughbreds Golf team has had a strong season so far. Currently,
the Thoroughbreds are ranked fourth in the Country for Division III.
Last weekend, October 10 and 11, the team dominated regional opponents at the Hamilton College Invitational, winning by 12 strokes.
It was the third tournament win for the Thoroughbreds this season. The team's other two wins were the Tim Brown Invitational in Saratoga Spa State Park and the Liberty League Championship at St. Lawrence.
The Thoroughbreds' top player at the Hamilton Invite was junior Matt Canavan, who finished second and only one stroke behind Hamilton College's Brad Roche; Canavan shot 71-77-148, Roche placed first with 74-73-147.
Coach David Bakyta is really impressed with the team. Bakyta, who played on the team himself in the late '80s, has been the Thoroughbreds' golf coach for four years.
"They're excellent golfers and great student athletes. We were very prepared for this season. We trained hard over this summer," Bakyta said.
The team's next match is the NYU-Manhattanville Tournament on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. They will be competing against the top 10 teams in the country, including Middlebury, Williams and NYU.
"It should be a great event," Bakyta said.
This weekend during Skidmore's Celebration Weekend, the golf team will be inducted into the college's Hall of Fame.
