Friday, October 16th, the Saratoga Catholic Saints faced the Canajoharie Cougars in a competitive game.
"We played the best two sets of our lives," Alexandra Kirby starting setter on the team said.
Although the Saints did not win, they were extremely proud of the game's outcome. The result of the game lit the fire for the loosing streak Monday, October 19th, the Saint's faced the Galway Eagles.
"Galway's game was a disappointing loss and I hope we learn from it and become a better team because of it," Kate Lenz, senior middle hitter said.
The Saints' rival, the Mayfield Panthers, had one goal in mind on Tuesday, October 20th, to raise money for players and coaches with Cancer. The two teams raised over $77 dollars in the 50-50 raffles alone, but that success didn't over flow into winning the game.
"Tonight's game is going to be a challenge, but I think if we play as a team then we should have a good chance of competing successfully against Mayfield," Captain, Jennifer Diggins outside hitter for the Saints said before the game.
The Saint's lost their third game in a row. The decline of their previous winning streak made the team nervous on the court.
Thursday, October 22nd, the Saratoga Central Catholic Saints played the Fonda Braves in an exciting game. The Saints stepped on the court with their heads held high, however, after winning the first set, they grew too confident. The Saints ended up loosing the entire match in five sets.
Friday, October 23rd, was Senior Night against the Stillwater Warriors. The Saints had their heads in the game, winning the entire match in the first three sets. The crowd went wild! The seniors were happy to finish their last seasonal game with a win before sectionals, beginning on Friday, October 30th.
Mollie Denier, Middle Hitter, Jennifer Diggins, Outside Hitter, Kristina Johnson, Middle Hitter, Kate Lenz, Middle Hitter, Cate Mensler, Outside Hitter, Amber Ward, Setter and Julia Larson, Setter, left the team to juniors, Justine Jasper, Outside Hitter, Alexandra Kirby, setter and sophomore, Marie Sullivan, middle hitter, after the victory.
On Saturday, October 24th, the Saints participated in the annual WAC tournament, along with Fonda Fulton Ville, Galway, Schenectady Christian, and Middleburg, schools in their pool. Overall the Saratoga Catholic Saints finished fourth in their pool.
After the eventful tournament the girls prepared for their scrimmages against Schuylerville, Tuesday, October 27th and Schenectady Christians, Wednesday, October 28th. Both games were victorious! Hopefully this kind of success will carry the Saint's into Sectionals and then, if they make it, Regionals.
